英文中，有许多口语句子的意思往往不能从字面上去理解，下面我们来看看有哪些容易误译的句子吧。

　　5.speak of the devil 

　　说曹操，曹操就到解析：中文歇后语单纯指“提到某人，某人就出现在面前”，没有负面意味；英文里虽用devil（魔鬼）一词，但也是褒贬皆可用。

　　例：I hadn't seen Michael for quite a long time. However,I was just talking about him and he appeared. Speak of the devil!

　　（我好长一段时间没见到迈克尔了，然而我才刚谈到他，他就出现了。说曹操，曹操就到！）

　　6.two heads are better than one 

　　三个臭皮匠胜过一个诸葛亮解析：中文说“三个臭皮匠”，英文里只要“两个头”（twoheads）即可！

　　例：There's a saying,“Two heads are better than one.”You may consult others when making big decisions.（有句话说：“三个臭皮匠胜过一个诸葛亮。”当你做重大决定时，不妨咨询他人。）

　　7.I will show you the door.

　　（你以为是）我送你到门口。

　　（但其实是）我想请你滚蛋。这句英文的原意是“大门就在那里”，有对人下逐客令的意思，是很不客气的说法。

　　例：Be quiet, or I will show you the door.（安静，否则我会叫你滚出去。）

　　送客的正解：I will show you to the door.或I will walk you out.

　　8. Were you out to lunch?

　　（你以为是）你出去吃午餐了吗？（但其实是）你是疯了吗？

　　out to lunch是俚语用法，意指疯狂或心不在焉，摆明是在教训别人。

　　例：It seems that you were out to lunch in class.（你上课时似乎心不在焉。）

　　问别人吃饱没，正解：Did you eat yet?

　　9.I am a confidence man.

　　（你以为是）我是个有自信的人。

　　（但其实是）我是个骗子。

　　confidence是“自信、信任”没错，但confidence man却是俚语用法，专指诈骗钱财的骗子或欺诈者。

　　例：We finally realized that he was a confidence man.（最终我们发现他是个骗子。）

　　“有自信的人”正解：

　　I am a confident man.

　　10.have a weakness for something

　　其实不是指弱点，而是“完全没有招架能力”的意思。

　　如果有人说I have a weakness for chocolate，就是指他对巧克力喜爱得不得了。这里的weakness（名词）意为“嗜好、癖好”，而不是“弱点、缺点”。have a weakness后面还常常加人，例：John has a weakness for Mary.

　　11.You're not even close!

　　（×）你还没有关门。

　　（○）你还差太远。

　　这句话在美剧中常常出现，有时更简略，用not even close也可以。close是“近”的意思，not even close便是“差得远”的意思。
